UPNVY Lecturer Guides Farmers on Risk Management in Shallot Cultivation
Paksi Mei Penggalih, M.Sc., a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta (UPNVY), was invited as a guest speaker for a Technical Guidance program on “Risk Management in Shallot Cultivation.” The event, organised by the Sleman Regency Office of Agriculture, Food, and Fisheries, took place on 1 July 2025 in two locations Margodadi, Seyegan and Sendangtirto, Berbah with 50 enthusiastic participants from the Sendangtirto Makmur (Berbah) and Saptodadi (Seyegan) farmer groups.
In his presentation, Paksi Mei explained that risk management plays a vital role in reducing potential losses in shallot farming, which can arise from climate variability, pests and diseases, and economic factors. The session also covered risk identification, analysis, and prevention strategies tailored to local farming conditions.
By understanding and anticipating risks, farmers can minimise losses, secure profits, and safeguard the future of their farming enterprises. This Technical Guidance program reflects an ongoing commitment to empowering local farmers with knowledge and tools for resilient and profitable agricultural practices.
