The Department of Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta (UPNVY) successfully conducted the 2025 Agricultural Educational Excursion on June 10–12, 2025. The program brought together the 2022 cohort of Agrotechnology students and 11 faculty supervisors on a field visit to four prominent agricultural sites in East Java, showcasing the breadth and diversity of Indonesia’s agricultural landscape.

Designed as an immersive, contextual learning experience, the excursion aimed to deepen students’ understanding of agriculture from multiple perspectives—industrial-scale production, government-led research, creative agribusiness ventures, and environmental conservation.

Over the three-day program, participants visited:

• PT BISI International Tbk (Kediri) – introducing advanced seed production systems and competitive agribusiness strategies at an industrial scale.
• Citrus and Subtropical Fruit Research Institute (BRMP Jestro), Batu City – highlighting the pivotal role of research in developing innovative tropical and subtropical fruit varieties.
• DD Orchid Nursery, Batu City – a modern horticultural enterprise known for its orchid cultivation management and experiential marketing approaches.
• Purwodadi Botanical Garden, Pasuruan – emphasizing plant conservation and environmental stewardship as essential foundations for agricultural sustainability.

Students actively engaged with experts and practitioners at each site, asking insightful questions and gaining first-hand exposure to the challenges and innovations shaping the agricultural sector.

One student reflected:

“I’ve realized that agriculture is far more than working on farmland—it’s about technology, business, and conservation. This trip opened my eyes to new opportunities I had never considered before.”

Through initiatives like this, the Department of Agrotechnology at UPNVY continues to bridge academic learning with real-world agricultural practices, reinforcing the university’s Bela Negara mission to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, ethical, and ready to contribute to the nation.
